Neural Activity

It is possible to listen to the thoughts of others using a combination of ultrasound and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). There is a lot in the public domain about this technology and its clinical applications, for example on Wikipedia. The science goes back to the 1890s, when it was realised that changes in blood flow and blood oxygenation in the brain are closely linked to neural activity such as thoughts.

A well-known application of this technology involves brain-computer interfaces which enable paralysed patients to communicate just using thought. These technologies have moved a long way forward, and can be operated remotely via satellite, enabling links to large technology centres where fMRI equipment can be accessed.
